Project ideas / Browser extensions

Browser extension ideas real people asked for

A browser extension is a small add-on that changes how websites look or behave in your own browser. It suits a focused idea: it runs on pages people already visit, and it can often work without a server or an account.

The ideas

  • Has a builder brief

A browser extension that makes you restate their point before posting an angry reply

When you hit reply on a heated comment, it pauses for a minute and asks you to sum up the other person's view in one sentence. If your version is far from theirs, it shows both side by side before unlocking Post. No scoring or AI rewriting, just a speed bump.

  • Has a builder brief

A recipe saver that strips the life story and gives you just the recipe

Paste a recipe link and get a clean card with ingredients and steps, no ads or backstory. Scale servings, tweak amounts, add your own recipes, and keep a big-text cook mode for when your hands are messy. Offline use and a one-time price (or fully free) are part of the appeal.

  • Has a builder brief

A paste-a-guide tool that turns messy how-to pages into mobile step cards

On a phone, how-to articles are buried in popups and videos have no chapters. Paste a URL and get a clean, tick-off list of steps shown one at a time, ideally as a floating step view while you work in another app. Works best for repairs, setup and cooking-style guides.

About this list

This is a short list, and we'd rather keep it honest than pad it. One idea here asks for an extension outright: a pause before you reply to a heated comment. The other two are about cleaning up pages you're already reading, recipes and how-to guides. An extension would do that well, though a website you paste a link into would work too. Pick whichever shape you like.

Each idea was asked for by a real person, often in a public post elsewhere, and the ticket says who asked. Ideas never lock, so build your own version even if someone else has started. When it works, add a link on the idea page so the person who asked can try it.

Have an extension idea of your own, or a problem with a website you keep running into? Post it in your own words, and it can join this list.
