A tracker for which registrar holds each of your domains and where its DNS points

Asked for by a domain collector on r/SomebodyMakeThis · original source · more from r/SomebodyMakeThis

People who buy domains from the cheapest registrar lose track of where each is registered, when it renews and which nameservers it uses. Add domains manually or by lookup and see renewal dates and nameserver changes in one list.

For builders: a suggested starting point

The weekend plan

A rough weekend-sized plan to help you start. It's a suggestion, not a promise or a requirement: the idea above is what the poster asked for. Change anything. About the steward

Done for one weekend
You add your domains and see one list with each one's registrar, renewal date and nameservers, and a note whenever the nameservers change.
Suggested shape
Small web app or self-hosted service
In scope
  • Add domains by typing or pasting them, one per line.
  • Look each one up with RDAP, the public successor to WHOIS, to get the registrar, expiry date and nameservers. Allow typing them in by hand when a lookup fails or a registry leaves a field out.
  • One list sorted by renewal date, with the number of days left.
  • Re-check on a schedule and record when nameservers change, with the old and new values.
Optional, if there's time
  • An email before a renewal or when nameservers change.
  • Import a domain list from a registrar's export file.
