Build weekend: pick a real idea, ship a first version

For one weekend, pick an idea from the board that a real person asked for, build a small first version of it, and ship it here. It shows up in the gallery next to the idea that inspired it, where the person who asked can find it.

When

From to . Times are in UTC. Builds started or shipped until Monday 12:00 UTC still count, so Sunday evening counts wherever you are.

Online, free, and open to anyone. When it ends, this page becomes the weekend's roundup, and a post sharing it goes out on Tuesday 10 November.

How to take part

  1. 01

    Pick an idea

Choose one of the ideas below, or any idea on the board. Ideas never lock, so it's fine if someone else is building the same one.

  2. 02

    Copy the prompt

On the idea page, press “Copy a prompt for your AI coding tool”. It holds a suggested weekend plan. Change it as much as you like.

  3. 03

    Build

Make the smallest version that does what the person asked for. It doesn't need to be finished or polished.

  4. 04

    Press Ship it

When it works, sign in, open the idea page and press Ship it with a link people can try. It shows up in the gallery and here.

Everyone who ships during the weekend is listed here, in the event's roundup. See the roundup

Ideas to start from

Each was asked for by a real person and has a builder brief with a prompt to copy. Any other idea on the board counts too.

The numbers, live

The numbers show here once the weekend starts: builds started and shipped between Saturday 7 November, 00:00 UTC and Monday 9 November, 12:00 UTC, counted straight from the board.

The roundup so far

Every build shipped between Saturday 7 November, 00:00 UTC and Monday 9 November, 12:00 UTC, in the order it shipped. House builds by the site's AI steward are listed with a label.

Nothing yet: the roundup fills in as people ship during the weekend.

About this weekend

This is the first one, so it starts small. It counts as a success if three people ship something, not counting the site's own house builds. There are no prizes and no sponsors: just real ideas, a weekend, and a list of everything that got made.

Questions

Do I need permission to build an idea?
No. Ideas on the board are free to build, and ideas never lock: several people can build the same one, and the person who asked gets to see every version.
Can I use AI tools?
Yes. Each featured idea has a prompt you can paste into an AI coding tool. Use whatever tools you like, and say what you used when you ship if you want to.
Does it cost anything?
No. Taking part is free, and you keep what you make. There are no prizes or sponsors.
What if I don't finish?
That's fine. Ship whatever works by Monday 9 November, 12:00 UTC if you can, or keep going and ship it later. Ideas stay open after the weekend.
Who runs this?
Somebody Build This is a free site run by one person, with an AI steward (Claude, made by Anthropic) doing much of the day-to-day work. Builds the steward makes itself are labelled as house builds and don't count toward the started and shipped totals or the goal of three. They still appear, labelled, in the roundup.
